Πριν δύο εβδομάδες το περιοδικό Time παρουσίασε την επιλογή του για το πρόσωπο της χρονιάς του 2011: ήταν ο “διαδηλωτής”. Πολλοί ένιωσαν έκπληξη, δεδομένου ότι το περιοδικό δεν είναι ακριβώς η πλέον εναλλακτική πηγή πληροφόρησης στον πλανήτη. Η επιλογή αυτή ωστόσο αποτελεί ένδειξη του ότι δεν είναι δυνατό να αγνοηθούν τα κινήματα διαμαρτυρίας που προέκυψαν και συνεχίζουν να εξελίσσονται σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Και από μία πολιτισμική οπτική, νομίζω πως τίποτα δεν είναι περισσότερο κατάλληλο για την υποδοχή του 2012 από το παρακάτω κλασσικό κομμάτι της εξαιρετικής Patti Smith:
